Amount too Small for Lawsuit
There is
a little known Nevada law that says that
gamblers have the right to dispute any
outcome of any game for any reason at
all. There is no limit on the amount
that may be disputed, nor the reason
that they are disputing it. This is how
Frank Sciannameo ended up fighting the
casinos for 25 cents.
Sciannameo was a long time player at The
Orleans hotel and casino and was playing
the slot machines when he won.
Sciannameo won $8.50, which made him
happy, but he also wanted back his 25
cent wager. He decided to take it to the
Nevada Gaming Control Board to see if he
could get his wager back.
This is the first time that someone has
sued a casino looking for their wager
back, so many were curious to see how it
might end up. The board told Sciannameo
that he would not be getting back his
money, and that was the end of it as far
as they were concerned.
Some would think that the board would
have a problem with such a small wager
issue, but the board says that they
encourage players to have their voices
heard. Even though getting a wager back
from your slot machine seems excessive,
it was a classic example of the law at
work.
They say that if they stop taking their
grievances to the board, then they will
stop bringing their money to their
state. They say that if a customer
doesn’t feel that they were treated
fairly on the slot machines, or any
other game for that matter, they have
the right to complain and “get their day
in court.”
