Will
Limits Be Raised?
Missouri
and Colorado are in two very unique
places right now. They are looking to
their voters to increase limits on
wagering so that they can make more
money from their slot machines. Those
that are for the increase says that the
states would benefit greatly from the
increase as would their bottom lines.
They are looking to increase wagering
limits or eliminate loss limits.
But they are not alone, as voters in
Maine, Maryland and Ohio are all looking
at gambling increases or changes this
year. There is a very public battle
going on in Maryland right now for the
right to bring in slot machines. Each
state has a different perspective on
slot machines and gambling, but one
thing they all have in common is dollar
signs.
They are all united in that by bringing
in slot machines, or expanding gambling
in any way, they have the potential to
bring in a lot more tax dollars for the
state. They say that with revenues going
down they have had to look at other ways
to bring in money and slot machines and
increased gambling are the perfect way
to do that.
Many are quick to point out that even
though many are against the slot
machines, it isnt as if they are
looking to make major changes. Places
like California and Pennsylvania just
really became slot machine states
allowing thousands and thousands of the
games to come in.
They are looking for a smaller scale
gambling expansion just something to
help them out and help out tax payers.
However, those that are opposed to the
slot machines say that ultimately it is
just another tax on the tax payers as
they are the ones who will be playing
them.
