Pro-Slot Machine Ads Under Fire
It is no
secret that the state of Maryland is
trying to get slot machines legalized in
the next election. However, a series of
ads is rumored to be about to run on TV
and radio and opponents are already
gearing up against them.
Maryland Comptroller Peter Franchot has
made a statement simply stating that the
pro slot machine groups’ ads are going
to be making “direct attacks on
individuals rather than discuss the
issue.” He says that the ads, which are
promoting slot machines, should focus on
the issue not the people behind it.
Franchot has long been an opponent of
the slot machines, and he says that the
issue is being driven by special
interest groups. He is of course,
referencing the pro slot machine group
For Maryland for Our Future. The group
is going to be launching ads in support
of slot machines and in their email they
allegedly took shots at Franchot.
For his part, Franchot says that the
“nasty personal attacks launched today”
by the group are not helping voters make
their decision. His camp says that it is
not easy being the one to stand against
everyone else on the issue, but it is
something he firmly believes in.
