Slot Machine Win

San Pasqual has won an initial slot machine victory that gives them a similar situation to their neighbor the Rincon Band. They have been fighting to get equal treatment with slot machines under California law, and now it looks as though they are on their way to getting that wish.

The tribe has won a court decision that is very similar to the Rincon Band regarding how many slot machines they are allowed in reference to the 1999 compacts that they signed. This however, is just the first part of the process as there will be other court decisions that need to come down before it is settled.

The tribes have been arguing with the state in reference to a clause that is in the agreements that sets the number of slot machines that they can have statewide. They are not alone in their battle as the Colusa tribe has also filed a similar lawsuit.

The three tribes are fighting to be able to bring in hundreds more slot machines than they can now, and they don’t want to have to negotiate with the governor to get that right. It seems that with the number of tribes that signed similar deals to the one they are fighting, the court has agreed that they do not need to hear from each and every tribe regarding it.

They are aware that by allowing them to bring in more slot machines they could be upsetting the revenue balance that currently exists in the state. However, they say that is not fair for some tribes to get more slot machines than others.
