Says Yes to Budget
Michigan
has approved a budget that doesn’t make
anyone happy. Because of the shortage in
this year’s budget, this state is
putting forward a cut on spending for
education. The Michigan Legislature has
voted to cut public school funding by
the equivalent of $165 per student for
the academic year that is currently
ongoing. Teachers, already being
underpaid, know that this does not bode
well for them or for their futures.
Many
parents are upset because they say that
education is the first thing to be cut.
They argue that there are many other
areas of wasteful spending within the
state budget that could be cut instead
of cutting education funding once again.
You have both sides agreeing to a budget
cut for education in as far as Democrats
and Republicans are concerned, but
parents are outraged.
Many
say that if they were to allow the
tracks to bring in slot machines that
their budget worries could be over.
There are several games that’s would not
be the same as Class III Vegas type slot
machines but would still bring in a huge
amount of revenue for the state. They
argued that these slot machines would be
able to raise millions of dollars needed
so that funding for schools would not be
cut.
Opponents of the plan say that no matter
how much money comes in from the slot
machines it is not worth the trouble
that they would bring with them. They
argue that crime and corruption would
run rampant throughout the state if the
slot machines were legalized. However,
parents argue that those that are most
concerned with that crime and corruption
they say probably don’t have children in
those schools that are being cut.
