Riley Happy
with Decision
A
recent court hearing in Alabama has seemed to
stoke the fires of slot machine gambling
disagreements once again. Alabama Gov.
Bob Riley released a statement on Monday
saying that United States District Judge
Lynnwood Smith’s ruling against
electronic bingo games was fair and
just. Riley said that these machines
that “look and act like slot machines
constitute illegal slot machines, no
matter what they’re called.” Riley then
went on to say that those people who
operate slot machines across the United States
need to be aware that no matter what you
call them they are what they are. Riley
has long been looking to get rid of the
illegal slot machines that he feels are
operating within the state of
Alabama.
However, Country Crossing Developer
Ronnie Gilley said that the governor was
putting words in the judge’s mouth.
Gilley said that although he was pleased
with the way the judge had handled the
matter that the judge was not talking
about slot machines across the state. He
said that the governor was trying to
make this ruling more than what it was
because he was trying to get slot
machines made illegal.
Gilley
said that this ruling will not have any
bearing on their development that they
are currently building, as they do not
fall under the realm of this judgment.
He said that for Riley to characterize
this ruling as a blow against electronic
bingo machines and illegal slot machines
within the state is a misrepresentation
of the facts.
They
plan on continuing building their
development and bringing in the proposed
bingo machines as originally planned.
