Vikings Need
Slot Machines for Stadium
Minnesota allows
gambling within their state. They allow
card games at their tracks, and they say
that their residents enjoy the games.
However they do not currently offer slot
machines at their tracks. This of course
is something they are looking to remedy
through a constitutional amendment to
add slot machines to the state’s two
horseracing tracks.
Rep. Tom Hackbarth wants to bring in
slot machines to the tracks, but unlike
many other states where they plan on
having those proceeds go to something
important like education or senior
programs, Hackbarth wants to see his
revenues go toward a new stadium for the
Minnesota Vikings football team.
Residents are upset to say the least.
Many of them feel that the National
Football League’s teams don’t have any
loyalty to any of the states in which
they play so why should they use slot
machine revenue to pay for a new stadium
for the team. They say that if the team
gets a better offer that will just leave
and go elsewhere. Their argument is that
if they are going to bring in additional
gambling in the form of slot machines to
their state it needs to go for something
important like education.
Many of them are upset that the idea of
slot machines is even being considered
as they say that they are notorious for
creating gambling addiction. They say
that any amount of revenue that would
come in from these machines would not be
worth the problems that it would bring
with them.
