Developer Fighting Slot Machine Monopoly
Frank
Parlato is bound and determined to have
some slot machine revenue in his pocket.
He doesn’t think that the tribes should
be able to get all of the slot machine
revenue for themselves and that it
needed to be spread around a little.
He says that Senecas should not be the
only ones running slot machines on their
side of Niagara Falls. Parlato is going
to run his own casino – but it will be
illegal. He said that “based on
ethnicity, a Seneca can open up a
casino, an American may not.”
He says that even if he gets arrested,
he won’t stop. He held a public hearing
in the old Occidental Chemical Center,
and says that he is going to open the
casino next door. He says that everyone
should be on a level playing field, even
Native Americans. Perhaps he is not
aware that the reason they are allowed
to run casinos is because we took their
land and killed them off – hence the
lack of an equal playing field.
He is also upset that they didn’t have
to comply with New York State building
code – something a lot of people agree
on. They also think that the tribe
should be paying taxes on their slot
machine proceeds. They say that they are
making millions of dollars and none of
it is going to the state, which they say
just isn’t fair.
