Limit on Slot Machines

Interestingly enough, the BC Lottery Corporation is trying to decide whether to add 300 or 400 slot machines to their new casino that they are building. The problem is that the Council has adopted a bylaw that would limit everyone to 300 slot machines – well, almost everyone.

The lottery would be able to bring in either 300 or 400 as they were already underway when the bylaw was adopted. The Lake City Casino would have more than everyone else if they choose to.

The casino says that “it’s too early to tell” what they are going to do in this situation. The city says that as the 400 slot machines were on the plans approved by the city, that they are grandfathered in and will be able to do as much as they want.

However, the problem is that the business would then be “non-conforming under bylaw” which is a big deal for corporation. They say that they pride themselves on not being non-conforming and they don’t know if they want to start that now.

They have decided to talk to the city before making the final decision. They are hoping for some guidance as to what to do.
