Race Tracks
Want Video Slot Machine Program Changed
The
slot machines haven't even come in yet
and already there are problems with how
they are. The state of
Ohio is
bringing in slot machines to their
racetracks across the state. However,
those tracks that will be getting the
slot machines are asking the Ohio
Lottery Commission to change the way
they plan on implementing those
operations.
The
tracks want an agreement between the
state and them to outline how the slot
machines are going to work. They say
that without any form of an agreement
that shows the terms and conditions as
to how the agents of the slot machines
are going to be operating, it will be
impossible for them to “obtain the
required financing and other required
financial security” in order to get
their applications in.
Under
the current rules, the application
deadline is September 15, and if they
don't have in their application by that
date they could be looking at a $15
million fee. This would make their 10
year permit fee $80 million instead of
$65 million. According to the lottery
commission their proposed changes are
under review. The group is also asking
for the bonding and insurance
requirements to be dropped, as they say
that it makes the projects “economically
infeasible.”
The
letter has 22 proposed changes to the
commission rules, including what kinds
of slot machines will be brought in,
who'll be doing the selecting of those
slot machines, how payouts will be
managed, and how many slot machines will
be allowed. The racetracks want much
more of a say in how the slot machines
are handled on their properties, and the
commission is not necessarily agreeing
with them.
