Legalizing
Table Games
It
seems like just yesterday that
Pennsylvania
residents legalized slot machines in
their state. They felt that by bringing
in slot machines the answer to all of
their troubles would be taken care of.
They brought in thousands upon thousands
of slot machines to fix their budgetary
woes, and many said that this would be
exactly what the state needed.
But it
didn't take long for the state to start
looking for new revenue as well. Now
legislators are looking to bring in
table games to bring in even more money.
There has been a bill kicking around the
government for a little while now that
would legalize table games like poker
and blackjack, and state legislators
have decided to put much more of a push
on the bill.
With a
massive budget shortfall in the state,
Gov. Ed Rendell supports using revenue
from table games to bring in more money.
Most of the state's leaders as well as
the government are fully behind the
addition of the table games, which means
it probably won't be long before it is
in fact legalized.
The
biggest problem right now is that
Republicans and Democrats are fighting
over how much tax should be set on the
table games. The new bill will be
packaged with changes in the law that
legalized slot machines, making the
lines between the gambling industry and
the public officials who regulated much
clearer and more defined. They say that
since they are making changes to the
industry anyway, they might as well
bring in the table games at the same
time.
