New Casino
Michigan
is excited about the new tribal casino
that is coming in. The American Indian
casino will break ground in two weeks,
and when finished, will be in 83,000
ft.² casino. This is slightly smaller
than what was originally planned, but
that's because it will now have to be
built in phases.
The
$157 million Gun Lake Casino will break
ground on September 17. The casino will
have 1,200 slot machines, 36 table
games, a food court and a full
restaurant. This is a change from the
original $200 million casino that was
going to be 192,000 ft.². Originally it
was also supposed to host 2,500 slot
machines and 75 table games, so this is
a bit of a reduction.
The
tribe says that due to economic concerns
and restrictions, they are going to have
to build in two phases. They will start
with the smaller phase and the reduced
number of slot machines and table games,
and then eventually add on to make it a
bigger unit. According to the tribe,
they said that it makes sense for them
to start smaller because this way they
can start bringing in jobs. They said
that if they waited until they could
complete the larger casino it would be
time that locals would be without jobs.
They
say that as the economy gets better,
they will be able to create the much
larger casino as they had originally
envisioned it with more slot machines
and table games. The tribe has been
fighting for more than 10 years to debut
a slot machine casino in that location,
and according to them on August 17 the
Department of Indian Affairs had
approved the land as a reservation.
