Williams Reports on Slot Machines

President of the State Senate, David Williams, attended the latest Corbin Chamber of Commerce meeting to give an update of the status of the state government. Williams was there to discuss the relationship between him and Gov. Steve Beshear. He said that he has tried to put aside their differences so that they could come together to develop the economic development act.

He said that they have been able to do some real good since they have been working together, but that there is one item that they will never agree on, and that is slot machines. He said the governor wants to bring in slot machines in order to find the difference in the state budget, but he disagrees. He said that the governor has been trying to pack the floor with Democrats who will support his position on the slot machines, and so far has been somewhat successful.

He said the governor has managed to bring in many Democrats, but that not all of them are sympathetic to the idea of bringing in slot machines. He said that the governor has started to get even pickier now as to which Democrats he lets in, as he only wants those that support the slot machine expansion. He said that they already have enough problems in the state of Kentucky; they don't need anymore by bringing in slot machines.

He says that the governor is determined that slot machines are going to be placed at race tracks across the state. He says that he will not put them in other locations, but as the state is considering bringing in more horse tracks that means they would also be bringing in more slot machines. He says this is one decision of the governor’s that he cannot stand idly by and allow to happen.
