Governor
Pushing Through Agenda
In Ohio they have really gone from one extreme
to another very quickly. The state had
long been one of those that repeatedly
pushed off the idea of bringing in slot
machines because they did not want the
problems that came with them. The other
states were jumping at bringing in the
games, but
Ohio’s residents
voted the slot machines down time and
time again as they did not want them.
However, once the tide turned and
residents voted for the slots to come
in, it became a big push to see how
quickly the state could get them in. The
governor and his minions have been
pushing to get them in as quickly as
possible as they know that the sooner
they get them in, the sooner they will
be able to get their money flowing.
Governor John Kasich announced on Monday
that he wants the Controlling Board to
approve a no-bid, multi-million dollar
contract with Intralot to bring in a
tracking system for the slot machines
that they are bringing in. This system
would track all of the activity that
comes from the slot machines, and
getting this in place is a big first
step toward getting the slots up and
running in the state. If the contract is
approved now, they think that they will
be able to get the games up by the end
of January, but if it is not approved it
will take an additional four months.
However, there are other competitors
that say that this is not the way that
it should go. They want the opportunity
to bid on the process and they say that
the Governor and the state have not
given a good enough reason as to why the
bid should not go out to everyone and
are fighting the approval.
