State Fair
Casinos
Places like Delaware and New
Mexico have
figured out something that many other
states have not – there is some real
money to be made in slot machines at the
state fairgrounds. These states have
full on slot machine casinos at the
racetracks at their facilities and these
games bring in millions of dollars a
year for the states that offer them.
This is more important than anything
else for they know that the money from
these games are offering them the
opportunity to fund other state programs
whereas without them they could not.
But Illinois is looking to do something similar
where they would like to bring in slot
machines to their fairgrounds and with
it they say that they would be looking
at several million dollars a year just
from that location. They know that if
they are able to bring in the slot
machines to the Illinois State
Fairgrounds that this would become a
much more inhabited location as they do
not have anything of this kind in the
state yet. Those fairgrounds that are
offering these games have one other
thing going for them, the revenue that
comes from the slot machines on the
premises enables them to make enough
money to completely support themselves
and then they don’t need any other state
tax dollar to do so.
But
the governor is concerned that by
bringing in slot machines to the
fairground that it is going to lose its
family friendly vibe, and that it would
ruin the location. He says that the
money that comes in from the games for
the support of the track is just not
enough to justify bringing in the crime
and changes that would come to the
location.
